Frequently Asked Questions
What if I live outside of the areas MBFO serves?
The Maryland Board of Football Officials (MBFO) primarily serves Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and MIAA schools. If you’re located far outside of these areas, there are several other officiating associations across Maryland that serve different regions and MPSSAA member schools.
Getting connected with the association closest to where you live is typically the best fit for scheduling, training, and game assignments. For example, if you’re in Prince George’s or Montgomery County, there are local associations that focus on schools in those areas.
If you’re unsure, feel free to complete our “Join Us” form—we’re happy to help point you in the right direction.
You can also use the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) resource below to connect directly with the appropriate association for your area.
When does the training begin for the upcoming season?
Training begins in late July with our first meeting for Applicant and Probationary officials. Sessions are held Monday evenings through the first week of November (excluding holidays) at a Baltimore-area high school, with final location details shared closer to the start of the season. Be sure to complete our “Join Us” form to stay up to date on all training information.
